Three items of note:
- When your turning-9-year old son says he’d rather spend time as a family than have a birthday party, you should jump on that, unlike me, who said “ok; that’s nice sweetie” and then procrastinated for almost 2 months past the poor dude’s birthday. However, the wish was eventually fulfilled and as mentioned on The FB, we headed across the border to Winnipeg and stayed a night at a hotel with a very small waterslide perfect for 4/5ths of our brood (meaning they could slide down by themselves instead of needing an adult to slide with them).
- Even mini Cam got in on the action of sliding over and over and over. That’s a good daddy (for letting me post the picture of his lily white biceps and for taking The Princess on the slide approximately 183 times).
- Apparently, turning 9 also means that you can only make one pose for every picture mom takes. Gotta look tough even when hanging with the fam. I hope he never grows out of wanting to spend time with family over friends (don’t worry, not holding my breath)!

I live in Winnipeg! Looks like you had fun! Now time to search your site and find something to make for dinner, should be easy everything I’ve tried has been a hit 🙂
Soooooo sweet! Enjoy and cherish that time. My oldest boy is 16 and doesn’t think we are as cool or fun as he once did. My dad’s friend told us when girls start to wear a bra it cuts off circulation to their brain. Ha! So what is a boy’s excuse?
I live in Winnipeg! Welcome to our fair city and I hope you enjoyed your stay!
My children are now grown and both went through a phase of thinking friends were more important to celebrate their birthday with than mom. I always admonished them a bit by reminding them that I was actually there for their birthday but to no avail. Still; they come back; family is forever, often friends are not!
What a lovely snapshot of your family; thanks for sharing.
So sweet! You have a lovely family, Mel! I think your children will want to spend their birthday with the family for a long time.
What a fun birthday activity! It IS wonderful when your kids choose family time first. I bet he’s glad he did.
There’s too much child porn on FB, so I won’t go there anymore. Recently a video of a man sexually abusing a baby girl went viral on FB and thousands of people “liked” it. A teen boy put photos of his privates all over photos of girls, too. I won’t support FB in any way at all ever. Thousands are leaving them. FB abuses people’s trust. Be careful, Mel. I’d advise you to use a better site like Flickr. The computer magazines all have had articles that warn people to stay away from it.
I love snapshot Saturday too. The best time of my life was when my children were young. It really does go by quickly, so enjoy those beautiful children!
Love Snapshot Saturdays! “One’s live does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Life is about relationships, love, and giving hearts. Good parents through their words and actions lead children in this belief (your 9 yr. old seems to have grasped this principle). The love from a strong, thriving, loving, tight-knit family unit will always overflow into the life of others. You are an example of this happening, Mel. The content of your site pours such goodness into our lives through your sharing knowledge, ideas, and always emphasizing the importance of family. Now I’m off to put some of your shared goodness into my family by making your homemade pizza dough for tonight’s supper. Thanks for sharing this special family time with us.
What a cute family photo. You can feel the fun and excitement in the kids.
I love the peace signs/gang symbol hybrid 🙂 What a great kid!
The “only one pose” pictures cracked me up! Looks like fun 🙂
